American Democracy

There are flavors of democracy.  The American Ideal is eupsychian democracy.  What other flavors have corrupted this ideal?

Privacy

Simply must have a hierarchy of clouds, with cloud-as-user paradigm.  Public cloud, university cloud, community cloud, etc.  Then something like DCE/Kerberos at the boundaries.  Same as being in Grand Central Station and home.

Aliveness

Notice the Maslowian B-value of Aliveness and compare to "live" versus "dead" websites.  There are obviously distributions with a unique signatures.  We certainly recognize the slackers.

Cholechickff's Syncrome

Had a really good notion, but forgot it.

New Currency

Might be that the new currency will be attention.  In terms of foregrounding concepts and solving problems, the old currencies have failed us.  We seem to be at the point where we need to re-define the notions of profits and costs, a la Maslow.  There is certainly the attention on currency at this point in history.  Necessity=mother of Invention, etc.

Perhsps Wisdom will return to the Zeitgeist.

Aboutism

Really bothers me that Maslow's work has not been extended.  Rather, there is endlesss aboutism on the Web.  Everyone simply repeats what Maslow said, or what the writer thinks he said, bot nodody has yet to pose questions about his Theory Z  or other later works.  And nobody has touched again the problematic notions in his "biological rootings of the value life" propositions. I have taken time to spotlight the genetic propositions, but there have been no arguments, and the Maslow site has been up since the beginnings of the Web.

This points to a truth about the nature of college and graduate education: it is still mechanomorphic and is not teasing out the idiosyncratic genius in the students.  Education should be about learning the student, not using him for a post-it note.

Maslow said, "What shall we think of a well-adjusted slave?"  This certainly applies to the student, and seems to be getting worse rather than better.  The flower is in the student, not the standardized and rubricized box.

Same thing in systems engineering, where the interface doesn't allow the vi user to wander into the editors with the credentials of an elder.  Here, for example, it would be nice to be with the old friend.  Google is trying with the experimental search and they are getting data, which is the proper path.  Before long, perhaps those of us who have lost our middle names to the byte-saving mechanomorphic accountants will at least be able to gain back a little better productivity at the keyboard.  Our thumbs are worn out from 30 years at her, and refuse to cooperate with the tiny emergency keyboards.  When will they learn to fit the system to the user and not endlessly insist that we learn to conform to annoying complexities?  Malcolm Knowles wrote Steve Jobs about this two decades ago.

Just guessing at how Maslow might process some of what is going on in our new world.  Any takers, or are you still wanting me to begin this rant with "It really bothers me...?"

First Query

First query today on "transcenders maslow" from Ratingen, Germany.  There was a first query on something else a few days ago but I haven't documented it yet.
